About Me

A graduate from The University of Huddersfield graduating with a FIRST class Ba (Hons) Degree. Currently completing a master's in photography.

Dean's awards from UOF for entrepreneurship within my Ba Final project.

What They Said is a collaboration between myself and a group of service users from the charity, Mission. I have been working with the group since November 2018. My intentions were to raise awareness around mental health and to question the representation of those who use these services. Working with this collection of people over a period of time changed all those involved. Particularly myself, who as a photographer started with a neutral perspective. This was achieved through group discussions and activities based on the idea of what happiness is.

The project is a study of the responses to the discussions at Mission, and the engaging conversations we had surrounding happiness. These collaborative photographs are the subject’s own images taken on disposable cameras and these have been paired with colored pages in the photo book to represent my emotional response. I directed a number of photography-influenced activities for the group to engage with; providing the opportunity for individuals to express ideas and thoughts through the photographic image. Each person chose to take photographs of what is important to them, allowing them to illustrate their creativity whilst giving them a voice to help break the stigma of service users.
