What They Said

For my final major project, I have looked into socially engaged art practice. The project contains a mix of images from my-self as the photographer and a group of people who attend a charity I am working with, Misson. I have handed out disposable cameras to my subject matters for them to document what they wish. Attending the weekly art group held at Missonto building relationships with my subjects. Building these relationships is a key factor for my project to allow me to use practice to ‘give a voice’. Society marginalizes many people such as my subjects, taking away their voice due to being vulnerable, suffering with mental health issues or just in need of some extra support. At the weekly art group, I have set up my own art class, experimented with my subject doing their own portrait and edited down their disposable photos with them and created titles.
