Today I took my first visit back (since i was a child) to the Queensgate market with my camera to document the place as I wondered. I think it’s hard to envision a 'new market' as I've known this one for most of my life.

The photo will be used along side Nick Ashman the other photographer within the group as a primary research. From discussion with the group I set to source the primary research my self documenting with my camera.

However, I wanted to go and photograph the market as I remember from a child; it was just that.

Nothing had changed. I only felt bigger.

I was able to appreciate the architecture of the roof, which is constructed by asymmetric curves, which served the purpose of exposing the interior of the market to be flooded with light. The market was described as a prime example of innovative and creative architecture as the high volume of natural light that illuminated the interior meant less recourses were used to light the publics path. The original architect was a company names J Seymour partnership with Leonard and partners (Seymourharris,2020).

From visiting the market, I spend around an hour wondering around the stalls at 9AM opening time for the workers. It was surprising that many stalls were either empty or still not uncovered after opening hour. Many stalls sign posted that they had had to close due to the corona virus pandemic. One stall (frameworks) pictured below is actually a stall I know has been there for many years. These images are showing the decreasing number of active stalls within the market due to the pandemic but also the state of the economy. Having said that there was still a number of market stalls open and the efforts from the council and temporary contemporary to fill the empty pods is evident.
