Friday afternoons crit session was with guest lecture Alex Coles I submitted a micro project I have been experimenting with over the previous weeks developing from my 1-2-1 Wirth Richard Mullhurn last week. I submitted 2 images shown in figure 1 and 2 below.

Figure 1 being the micro project I produced with the idea of absence and presence within photography, referring to my childhood not having my father around or knowing him. I wanted to explore visual metaphors of a loan tree in a bleak landscape as a metaphor to myself.

However, the feedback received from Alex and other Ma students I had thought too much into the metaphore although I did receive feedback that the images looked cold. This emotion being shown within the image is exaggerate by the snow but the emotion cold was how I perceived my father before I knew him.

Figure 2 is the second image I submitted, this was a self-portrait, for the crit review. This image received some good response between the play with the tools using for this project being the camera and lens creating the blurred barrier between the viewer and my self. The barrier created was a happy accidence but I like the way the focus has created a film over me not allowing the viewer to really see me. estranging me from them.

After speaking about previous micro shoot I have experimented with over the last few month such as playing dress up with my dads clothes. Artist such as Cindy Sherman, Niki S Lee and Francesca Woodman as photographers to research into their aesthetic of the back of my idea of photographing my self in my dads clothes.
